Join us for a weekend of photography in Southern Ohio. The hills should be green and lush this time of year and hopefully the waterfalls are flowing. This weekend falls during a new moon cycle for anyone who wants to do some astrophotography.

This is a Friday to Sunday trip and allows for flexibility of members to join the group either Friday evening or during the day on Saturday. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express, 12916 Grey Street, Logan, Ohio. The hotel includes the following amenities: free full buffet breakfast, indoor pool, 24 hour fitness center, 24 hour business center, free Wi-Fi access and guest laundry. A block of 10 rooms (5 single bed & 5 double bed) will be held until May 27, at which time they will be released. Please contact the reservation office at 740-385-7700 and reserve your room under the block name of Photo Venture Camera Club. Individual reservations must be cancelled by 6 pm on the date of arrival to avoid a cancellation fee. Spouses/significant others are welcome to attend.

General itinerary:

  • Friday evening - arrive at hotel in Logan, dinner and astrophotography @ John Glenn Astronomy Park if interested.

  • Saturday – head to HHSP and explore the Old Man’s Cave, Upper and Lower Falls area, lunch at a local restaurant, back to HHSP to explore Conkles Hollow and Rock House. Following dinner back in Logan those who wish can participate in astrophotography at John Glenn Astronomy Park. Sunday – members are free to head back to HHSP for additional morning hours of photography and head home on their time frame.

  • Sunrise approx. 6:00 am

  • Sunset approx. 9:00 pm

Hocking Hills State Park – The park is comprised of several, non-contiguous areas within Hocking State Forest. There is a newer visitor Center located near the parking lot for Old Man’s Cave/Upper & Lower Falls. Visit https://www.hockinghills.com for more information and photos of the area.

John Glenn Astronomy Park – https://jgap.info The Park does astronomy programs on Friday and Saturday nights March through November, weather permitting which may be of interest to everyone, even those not wanting to do astrophotography. The Park is large enough to allow photography while the program is going on. However, parking is limited. FREE parking passes are required and will need to be reserved prior to arrival. Program topics are generally announced about one month in advance and are listed on the Park website.
